The Van Heusen India Men’s Week promises to be a scinitillating affair
The second edition of Van Heusen India Men’s Week promises to be bigger, better and sexier. As Varun Bahl of the label Varun Bahl Karan Johar says, “India is the fourth country in the world to have a men’s week, thanks to Van Heusen. We needed this badly.” The much-awaited event is slated to begin on August 27 in the capital.

The first timer in the men’s week will showcase a collection that’s ‘very New York’. “It’s a true pret-a-porter line with beautiful detailing. It’s young, trendy and experimental. We are introducing a line of denims. The colours are pinkish red, cobalt, grey, black, beige, khaki and white,” says Bahl who promises to be a regular at the week.
Designer Narendra Kumar Ahmed’s collection for the week has been inspired by the samurais of Japan. “There are influences of Kagemusham, the shadow warrior. I was in Japan a month ago and drew inspiration from there. The collection is very directional and has a sinister, sharp feel to it,” says Narendra, adding, “The men’s wear industry is more organised than the women’s wear one. And the turnovers are much higher. Van Heusen had the vision to do something exclusively for men within a great format.”
Designer Ashish Soni will stick to his main forte, which is tailoring, in his collection. Aptly titled Checkmate, the collection will showcase a wide variety of checks. “It hasn’t been an easy collection to do as handling many kinds of cheque requires a sense of elimination,” states Ashish.
Giving kudos to Van Heusen for seeing and believing in the future of men’s fashion, Ashish says, “Van Heusen comes with a very strong lineage. So the association is a win win scenario.”
